Our legal internship program offers law students competitive pay and a unique, hands-on experience in criminal law, with immersive rotations across Tennessee’s urban and rural District Attorney offices.

Designed to inspire and recruit future prosecutors, the program provides real-world skills, mentorship, and exposure to the diverse realities of the courtroom and the communities you will serve.

Program Structure:

Duration: Nine weeks.

Orientation: One-week orientation in Nashville covering:

  • The role and duties of Tennessee’s District Attorneys General.
  • The structure and workflow of the criminal justice system.
  • Courtroom procedures, law enforcement collaboration, and victim support.

Rotations:

  • Rising 2Ls: Four two-week rotations in different District Attorney offices across Tennessee, where interns will shadow prosecutors and district attorneys in their daily work, gaining exposure to diverse cases and challenges in both urban and rural settings.
  • Rising 3Ls: Two one-month rotations, where interns will practice law through a limited law license and gain valuable firsthand experience under the supervision of a prosecutor, including conducting courtroom proceedings.

Additional Opportunities:

  • Each intern, whether a rising 2L or 3L, will complete a writing sample during the program to enhance their legal writing skills and demonstrate their understanding of their role in prosecution.
Experiential Learning:
  • Hands-on participation in prosecution work.
  • Immersion in the complexities of Tennessee's criminal justice system.
Outcomes for Interns:
  • Deeper understanding of the criminal justice system.
  • Real-world legal skills.
  • A network of mentors.
  • Preparation for future careers as legal advocates.
